Abstract Scope |
The corrosion resistance of VCrCoNi medium-entropy alloys in a 0.5 M H2SO4 solution was studied by adjusting the compositions of V and Cr while keeping the microstructural differences minimal. The effects of these elements were analyzed in terms of their influence on the formation of the passive film and its subsequent impact on corrosion resistance. The findings indicated that increasing the Cr/V ratio enhances corrosion resistance through the development of a Cr-enriched passive film. However, a higher Cr/V ratio negatively impacts mechanical strength, where V is crucial. The optimal trade-off between mechanical strength and corrosion resistance was explored based on the results from electrochemical measurements and immersion tests. |
