Abstract Scope |
There is great interest in approaches that accelerate materials aging and compatibility (MAC) screening assessments. The current gold standard for headspace analysis is GC-MS which, while powerful, is limited by its use of chromatography. We present ways in which we are using Selected-Ion Flow-Tube Mass Spectrometry (SIFT-MS) coupled with cryogenic milling to study our materials. This includes quantifying Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) outgassing from single materials, using “full-scan” techniques to identify outgassing compounds that aren’t easily identified by GC-MS as a material fingerprint, and performing in-situ aging to identify instances of material decomposition.
