Abstract Scope |
Intercalation doping of 2 dimensional (2D) materials with nanoparticles can change electronic and material properties of 2D materials such as creating an n-type, p-type material or tuning magnetic property or phase change property. In intercalation doping, nanoparticles are inserted in the spaces between the 2D material held together by Van der waals’ forces. Current manufacturing techniques such as physical vapor deposition and atomic layer deposition are not suitable for large volume production. We will present a novel laser ablation synthesis in solution technique (LASiS) as a reliable and cheap alternative to generate nanoparticles and nanoparticles doped 2D materials. LASiS is an environmentally friendly technique, where the nanoparticles and 2D structures are created due to the focusing of a large amount of laser power into a very small volume. We will also present the effect of laser parameters on the type of 2D material or doping generated and its production rate. |
