Abstract Scope |
The finite element analysis (FEA) of the friction stir spot welding (FSSW) process is usually difficult and time-consuming because of the severe deformation of materials. In this study, the FSSW process was analyzed analytically using the upper bound theory. The aluminum alloy sheet AA6061-T6 was adopted as a model material. The upper bound analysis is based on the torsional backward extrusion process and the velocity fields were derived using a dual-stream function. Bonding criteria were used to predict the degree of bonding in porthole die extrusion. The reliability of the proposed method was verified by comparing the upper bound analysis results with the experimental and FEA results.
