Abstract Scope |
The slag investigations, described in the literature, focus mainly on the recovery of valuable metals out of the slag, furthermore to environmental concerns especially in case of toxic elements and heavy metals and finally to thermophysical and thermochemical properties of slags. The main scope of the slag characterization practice at the RHI Magnesita Technology Center is better understanding of the refractory corrosion on the pilot-scale. Therefore, complete mineralogical and chemical investigation, determination of physical properties including slag melting point as well as, thermochemical calculations of the slag liquidus and viscosity are necessary for a precise adjustment of the corrosion trial parameters. The slag properties described in this presentation include slag from the copper Peirce Smith converter, lead short rotary furnace, ilmenite smelting furnace and TBRC vessel. Main scope of such testing practice is selection of the most suitable refractory products respectively increase of the refractory performance in metallurgical furnaces.
