Abstract Scope |
Known for their high strength-to-weight ratio and castability, Magnesium (Mg) alloys play a crucial role in the automotive and aerospace industries. The gravity-driven multiple effect thermal system (G-METS) distillation process reduces the energy consumption associated with Magnesium (Mg) alloy scrap recycling. The Reduced Order Model (ROM) presented here was developed to compute the distillation outputs and validate the G-METS design. This talk will cover the production rate, energy consumption, heat, and mass transfer of G-METS with a focus on the behavior of non-ideal gases and the system dynamics of the G-METS distillation process. It will conclude with a number of G-METS design implications based on thermodynamics findings made in the Reduced Order Model. |
