Abstract Scope Can atomistic simulations tell us their corresponding evolution equations in the continuum limit? Can a non-equilibrium process be interpreted as an equilibrium one? In this talk, various coarse-graining strategies will be discussed to elucidate these questions, and provide important connections between atomistic and continuum models.
