Abstract Scope There has been increasing attention paid to Refractory Compositionally Complex alloys (RCCAs), which are not “High Entropy Alloys” as they usually contain more than one phase. Among the various types of RCCAs, there is some excitement about a group of alloys known as bcc-B2 superalloys, containing, as the name implies, two phases (bcc and the intermetallic compound with the B2 structure), and a microstructure that resembles that of conventional Ni-base superalloys. This excitement is somewhat quenched by the fact that most of the alloys investigated to date exhibit limited tensile ductility. Most usually, the lack of ductility is attributed to the presence of the B2 phase, particularly when that phase is the continuous phase. The results, to be presented, involve electron microscopy coupled with nano-indentation used to determine the deformation behavior of the individual phases in a RCCA, and so investigate the causes of limited ductility.
