Abstract Scope |
This investigation focuses on how the addition of TiB2 particles influences the grain structure and phase constitution of superalloy Inconel 718 (IN718) during directed energy deposition (DED) and the following a standard solution heat-treatment. IN718 powder uniformly mixed with 1 vol % of micron-sized TiB2 particles was processed via DED. Micro X-ray CT analysis of the as-built samples revealed a non-uniform distribution of the TiB2 particles within the as-built IN718 matrix. Microstructural analysis following heat treatment indicated oxidation of the TiB2 particles occurred along with additional precipitation of borides in the interdendritic regions. The physical presence of these TiB2 particles was found to locally alter the intragranular misorientation and contribute to varying levels of grain structure changes during the heat-treatment. Preliminary results from this investigation will be presented and discussed. |
