Abstract Scope |
Lime, a common additive, is widely used in the bauxite digestion process. In this work, the factors and reasons affecting the activity of lime are investigated, and the mechanism of lime activity affecting the performance of bauxite digestion is described. The experimental results show that the calcination temperature of limestone as well as its particle size are important factors affecting the activity of lime; lime porosity, average pore size, and pore volume difference are the main parameters affecting the activity of lime. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) results show that the high-activity lime is honeycomb-shaped, uniformly sized fine particles, with well-developed particle pores and the formation of interconnected pore pathways. The results of bauxite digestion experiments showed that the digestion efficiency of bauxite and the physical phase composition of red mud would be affected by the lime activity. |
