Abstract Scope |
Aluminum alloys with low coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) are crucial for optical components in the space sector due to their dimensional stability under temperature variations and their low weight. Al alloys tailored for the specific application have been designed with the support of Thermo-Calc software. The most promising compositions have been produced by gas atomization and tested to evaluate their processability using Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). Heat treatment has been optimized to stabilize their microstructure and their properties under thermal cycling. CTE and mechanical properties have been assessed and correlated with their microstructural features. |
