Abstract Scope |
Though there is great progress in in-situ monitoring of defects like pores and cracks, there is a lack of in-situ microstructure analysis for additive manufacturing. A potential solution could be incorporating indentation-based microstructure prediction during the processing. In such an approach, the hardness results obtained could be related to the possible microstructures given that the printing material system is known. However, surface roughness effects could significantly influence the hardness results in such a scenario. In this work, we present a systematic study to unravel this roughness influence to assess feasibility of indentation for microstructure prediction during additive manufacturing. |
