Abstract Scope The interaction between humans and nature has always been fraught with challenges. The exploration of fossil fuel resources has led to significant global carbon emissions, causing unpredictable natural disasters. Also, the toxicities of many new materials are undocumented, skyrocketing the unpredictable implications. To address these issues, new materials with low toxicity, reduced costs, and sustainable properties are being sought. This report presents new materials based on thiophene-conjugated electronic systems. The influence of halogen substitution, polymers, light absorptivity, and nano-metal composite interactions was thoroughly evaluated. The emerging materials exhibited strong electronic features with sustainable properties and potential for enhancing catalysis processes in water, energy, and environmental fields. Materials were characterized using spectroscopic, microscopic, phase-identifying, surface area and electrochemical techniques. Specific applications include solar cells, electrolyzers, sensors, corrosion inhibition, fuel cells, HER, OER, printer's ink, and water treatments.
