Abstract Scope |
Particle reinforced metal matrix composite material was fabricated by sandwiching alumina particles between thin pure aluminum plates and using the accumulative roll bonding (ARB) method, which is a huge strain processing process using conventional rolling machine. Then, particle dispersibility, structural evaluations such as aluminum particle shape and particle size, and mechanical properties were evaluated. As a result, with the increase of ARB cycles, the size of agglomerated alumina (Al2O3) particles decreased, while the number density increased. On the other hand, the particle dispersity became smaller. It seems that the particles were separated from the aggregates and uniformly dispersed in the matrix. In addition, the dispersed particles contributed to improving the strength. The effect became more effective by increasing the number density of particles and making them more uniformly dispersed. Furthermore, the uniform particle distribution improved the plastic deformability and the elongation at break. |
