Abstract Scope |
Ni-Cr-W-based alloys with varying Mo (6 to 18 wt%) content alongside Al (3.5 wt%) and Ti (1-1.5 wt%) were investigated. These modified alloys are being developed for structural use in molten salt reactor systems. Alloys with 6, 8, 12, and 18 wt% Mo were cast into bars, homogenized (@1200°C) and then hot rolled (@ 1100°C). Initial microstructure revealed DRX equiaxed grains and Vickers hardness increased from 370 to 460 with increasing Mo content. After aging these alloys at 750/850°C up to 400 hours, samples were characterized using XRD,SEM,S/TEM, and APT. Miniature tensile testing were conducted to assess the mechanical behavior pre- and post-aging. Each alloy exhibited distinct microstructural changes post-aging, including formation of SRO and LRO structures/Ni2(MoCrW)/L12 phases, Mo/W-rich BCC particles and µ phases. The impact of varying Mo concentration in the presence of Al/Ti on ordered phase development and strengthening mechanisms will be discussed. |
