Abstract Scope |
Bi₂Te₃ and GeTe are the most important thermoelectric compounds. The interfacial reactions in the Co/Bi₂Te₃ and Co/GeTe couples were examined. The couples were prepared by electroplating Co on Bi₂Te₃ and GeTe substrates. After reacting at 500 °C for 24 hours, CoTe, (Bi₂)m(Bi₂Te₃)n, and Bi (liquid) phases formed at the Co/Bi₂Te₃ contact. Unexpected reactions, including CoTe, (Bi₂)m(Bi₂Te₃)n, and Bi (liquid) phases, were observed in the Co/Bi₂Te₃ couple on the outer side of Co, which is not in direct contact with the Bi₂Te₃ substrate. Similar reactions were also detected in the Co/GeTe reaction couple. A solid-gas-type reaction at 500 °C was conducted to verify the source of reactants; the results are similar to those in the Co/Bi₂Te₃ and Co/GeTe couples. The Bi-Co-Te and Co-Ge-Te phase diagrams and predominance area diagrams were calculated to provide a better understanding of the reaction results. |
