Abstract Scope |
The breakdown behavior of a protective Cr2O3 scale that formed on the heat-resistant steels used for superheater tube in waste-to-energy boiler was investigated under a simulated ash deposit in air. The formation and growth of CaCrO4 layer was found to cause breakdown of a Cr2O3 scale and accelerate corrosion under the ash consisting of CaO+NaCl+KCl+CaCl2. Among two possible reactions CaCl2+Ce2O3 or CaO+Cr2O3 for a formation of the CaCrO4, it was confirmed that a CaCrO4 was formed under a CaO deposit without alkali salts, but accelerated corrosion was not occurred after breakdown of a Cr2O3 scale. The results indicated that breakdown of a Cr2O3 scale was caused by a CaCrO4 formation by a reaction with CaO, then accelerated corrosion was initiated due to chlorination by alkali salts. |
