Abstract Scope |
The Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (EB-PBF) technique, which leverages the electron beam's ability to melt materials pixel by pixel, offers a unique opportunity to control the microstructure of printed materials. In this work, we present a novel spot scan strategy that provides unprecedented control over the microstructure of printed Ti-6Al-4V (Ti-64) samples. The as-printed top surface, polished transverse, and polished longitudinal samples are characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD). The results reveal significantly different microstructures compared to traditional scanning methods such as line scanning, highlighting the novel influence of the scan strategy on material properties. |
