Abstract Scope |
This study investigates the microstructure and texture formation in Inconel 718 deposited by induction-heating-assisted laser-directed energy deposition (IH-A LDED). In IH-A LDED, the deposit temperature, controlled by an induction heater, results in distinct secondary phases and grain morphologies compared to conventional LDED. To investigate the differences according to the temperature, Inconel 718 deposits were fabricated at room temperature, 720℃, 980℃, and 1100℃. Then, the microstructure and the texture formed in each deposit were analyzed by using SEM and EBSD. As the precipitates are determined by holding time of the deposit within precipitation temperature ranges, the holding time was calculated based on a numerical model. Furthermore, solidification parameters were calculated with the model to investigate the formation mechanism of grains. The findings reveal significant variations in microstructure and texture dependent on controlled deposition temperatures, offering insights into attaining the desired microstructure in the IH-A LDED process for Inconel 718. |
