Abstract Scope |
Half-Heusler compounds, belonging to a broad family of alloys, exhibit significant promise in thermoelectric applications due to their inherent properties. However, their cubic crystal structure often results in high lattice thermal conductivity, which limits overall thermoelectric performance. Addressing this challenge requires an increase in structural complexity, achievable through the substitution of various atoms at the same crystallographic site. This approach has demonstrated potential to substantially decrease thermal conductivity. Yet, the impact of such substitutions on the electronic band structure remains unclear, largely due to synthesis difficulties. In this study, we explore the phase formation mechanism and demonstrate how controlled synthesis conditions and isovalent substitution can influence the conduction behavior in valence-balanced half-Heusler alloys. |
