Abstract Scope |
58-S bioglass (BG) nanoparticles (NPs) exhibit excellent biocompatibility and osteoinductivity but possess poor angiogenic, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. To add multifunctionality (angiogenic, antibacterial, and antioxidant capabilities), present research aims utilizing Cobalt and Cerium doping in 58-S BG-NPs. The pellets were fabricated by Spark plasma sintering and found amorphous. Concavity/Shrinkage of the cytomembrane of S. aureus and E. coli has been observed in Co-Ce doped 58-S BG-NPs via electron microscopy, which is attributed to the synergistic effect of Co and Ce ions. Consequently, the length of E. coli was found to be significantly shorter (> 50%) than BG-NPs pellet. Furthermore, the highest nano-hardness of 5.61±1.20 GPa (~ 200% of 58S-BG-NPs) and elastic modulus of 75.7 GPa (~ 175% of 58-S BG-NPs) achieved in Co-Ce doped 58-S BG-NPs. The results indicated that Co-Ce doped 58-S BG-NPs possess antibacterial properties and used as a potential bone scaffold. |
