Abstract Scope |
Electromagnetic sensors can be used to monitor steel phase transformation due to the changes in magnetic and electrical properties between austenite and ferritic phases below the Curie temperature. The EMspec system has been deployed in the run-out table following strip hot rolling, allowing discrete points to be characterised and related to predicted phase transformation. A EMspec sensor has also been installed in a demonstration furnace/run-out table facility which allows continuous monitoring of phase transformation. The influence of temperature and phase fraction on the sensor signals will be discussed along with analysis of the different signals (zero crossing frequency, phase angle, magnitude). Results will be compared to predicted and measured phase transformation fraction with consideration of the influences of through thickness variations in temperature and transformation for thicker strip product. |
