Abstract Scope |
The corrosion of structural alloys by molten salt presents a formidable challenge in the context of molten salt reactors. To address this, we have developed a mesoscale model to comprehend and potentially mitigate such corrosion phenomena. Our electrochemical corrosion model leverages the phase field method implemented within the MOOSE framework to predict the complex diffusional interplay of alloying elements into the salt, with a particular focus on rapid diffusion along grain boundaries within the alloy system. We have applied this model to investigate fluctuating impurity concentrations, emphasizing the accurate tracking of HF concentration through static salt experiments. Furthermore, initial insights into the impact of water vapor on these corrosion processes are also under exploration. |
