Abstract Scope |
Our physical understanding and the predictability of metallic glass forming ability remain incomplete. The available experimental data are limited and biased compared to the vast composition space of potential glass formation. Motivated by this, we combine high-throughput experiments with machine learning methods and physical hypotheses: Using high-throughput alloy synthesis via co-sputtering, we have generated a large and diversely sampled data set on glass formation, which currently comprises ~13,000 ternary and quinary alloy compositions based on 20 different elements. We model the behavior observed therein using simple and insightful models, which point towards different mechanisms between the polymorphic and non-polymorphic solidification case. |
