Predicting properties of polycrystals from elemental or single crystal properties is a longstanding challenge in materials engineering. Using an integrated, FEM-based, high-throughput computational approach based on physics-motivated procedural generation of model representative volume elements, we report recent efforts to stochastically model properties of polycrystals. This approach allows calculation of expected properties as well as predicted scale-dependent variation in observed properties. We report recent efforts applying this approach to novel metal alloys in terms of mechanical and thermal properties. |
