Abstract Scope |
Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) techniques hold great potential for manufacturing applications requiring intricate designs and limited production quantities, particularly in the aerospace sector where metal components are crucial. Our research focuses on employing LPBF methods to create preforms out of Inconel 718 and 316L stainless steel, primed for subsequent forging and finishing procedures. We aim to investigate how compressive strain influences the microstructure and recrystallization behavior of AM IN718 and 316L materials, considering variables such as temperature, strain, and strain-rate. Our preliminary findings shed light on the heterogeneity of microstructure, mechanical properties, and defect density, all pivotal aspects for forthcoming forging processes. These insights are vital for optimizing manufacturing strategies and ensuring the integrity of final components. |
