Abstract Scope |
Secondary metals are critical and beneficial supplements to primary metal production. Presently, economical and environmental requirements impose the development of effective and inexpensive recycling methods for valuable metals from secondary sources. Management of Pb-Zn flotation tailings is one of the major challenges worldwide. Huge quantities of Pb-Zn oxide flotation tails can pose both a potential environmental threat (Pb, Cd, As, etc.) and attractive secondary resource of metals (Zn, Pb).
Physical separation and flotation of Pb-Zn oxidized wastes are very difficult. Pb is concentrated by flotation; but, Zn remains in the tails, due to complex mineralogy and fine size. These tails can be beneficiated by hydrometallurgical methods. In this study, leaching behaviour of Turkish Pb-Zn flotation tails were carried out by some inorganic and organic acids with and without oxidants/reductans. The effects of lixiviant type and concentration, temperature and time and S/L ratio on more than 90% metal dissolutions were determined. |
