Abstract Scope |
In this study, friction stir lap welding of wrought AA5052 to die-cast A383 was performed at the different welding speeds, and then the tensile shear properties were examined. During welding, in-situ measurement of temperatures near probe tip and shoulder surface was conducted using MULTI INTELLIGENCE(R) system. The probe tip always exhibited the higher temperature than the shoulder surface, and the temperatures decreased with increasing the welding speed. The lap welds exhibited the lower tensile shear strength at the higher welding speed and failed from the tip of the hook directing upward toward die-cast A383 in all welds. The hook height decreased with increasing the welding speed, resulting in decreased tensile shear strength. This study showed that the tensile shear strength could be controlled through temperature monitoring during welding because the hook height was well correlated with the temperatures. |
