Presentation Title Improving Sub-Microsecond X-Ray Radiography at CHESS
Author(s) Amlan Das, Katherine Shanks
On-Site Speaker (Planned) Amlan Das
Abstract Scope The Forming and Shaping Technology (FAST) beamline at the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) provides in-situ, time-resolved x-ray imaging and diffraction for investigating the performance and processing of structural materials. With high energy storage rings across the globe moving to smaller beam sizes and bunch-charges through upgrades, CHESS is uniquely poised to leverage higher per-bunch charge as well as larger beam size for applications towards full field x-ray radiography. This work discusses studies on deformation of structural materials using sub-microsecond x-ray radiography, performed at at the FAST beamline at CHESS. Further discussed are the x-ray radiography needs of future structural materials experiments as well as initiatives to improve the performance of the x-ray radiography capabilities by opting for different bunch patterns (separation of charges in the storage ring), x-ray sources (insertion devices) and detectors.
