Abstract Scope |
In the push to improve KPI of existing smelters, H.H. cell retrofits projects are getting very popular especially in China. The cathode assembly is a prime candidate for redesign as it is possible to at the same time reduce the cathode voltage drop (CVD) and reduce the metal pad horizontal current. Both improvements combined to help reduce the cell energy consumption.
A new cathode assembly design concept developed by Elkem is investigated in the current work using three types of complimentary models. Results obtained are presented and compared. |
