Abstract Scope |
Additive Manufacturing (AM) has held promise for large-scale metal components since the term was coined. The promise of flexible designs. The promise of less material waste. The promise of reduced lead times. The promise of digital inventories and the elimination of tooling. Indeed, today’s technology is delivering on these promises. Marine applications, from submarines to waterway infrastructure, are taking advantage of large-scale metal AM technology. This presentation will review underlying material data, qualifications, and technology advancements which underpinned the successful implementation of gas metal arc AM in real-world marine applications. |
