Abstract Scope |
This study delves into the natural aging behavior of Al-Mg-Si alloy sheets fabricated from 6xxx series aluminum scrap, emphasizing their potential in automotive applications. The research employs advanced characterization techniques, such as simulation approach, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and hardness testing, to examine the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties during natural aging at ambient temperature. Findings indicate significant improvements in hardness and tensile strength, attributed to the development of Guinier-Preston (GP) zones and metastable phases. The study confirms that alloys produced from recycled 6xxx series aluminum demonstrate mechanical properties on par with those from primary aluminum. These insights underline the feasibility of using recycled aluminum in high-performance automotive components, aligning with sustainability goals while ensuring material performance. This study provides valuable insights for optimizing recycled aluminum alloys, highlighting their viability for high-performance automotive components and promoting both environmental sustainability and industrial efficiency.
