Abstract Scope |
Lightly crosslinked liquid crystalline epoxy networks (LCEN) possess unique characteristics that allow them to exhibit stimuli responsive behavior and shape memory. As a thermosetting epoxy, such materials are often excluded from recycling and reprocessing techniques; however, dynamic covalent bonding may be employed to enable recyclability. In this work, we demonstrate a functional LCEN capable of shape memory and the ability to self-heal via dynamic bonding mechanisms. We also demonstrate the retention of functional properties after multiple reprocessing cycles and modes. In this way, this system shows promise for introducing a class of more sustainable, functional epoxies. |
