Abstract Scope |
Sustainability in smelting is composed of a multitude of challenges possibly requiring an extreme make-over. Lavoisier’s law of conservation of mass is the bread-and-butter law used in metallurgical operation. Statistical models derived from mass balances will include the overall behaviour, including biases and noise. In a pure statistical approach, risky extrapolation and many ambiguous problems are likely to persist. Statistical models can be complemented with physical unbiased models. A combination of control, statistical and physical models are needed to create, store and secure knowledge, insights and optimize operations. We will give examples how these requirements can be dealt with, where Pyrosearch has its focus on delivering reliable accurate fundamental thermodynamic and phase equilibria information through collaborative research, training and coaching and one on one support with the individual consortia members. Research program is supported by international industrial consortia of over 10 industry sponsors and Australian government. |
