Abstract Scope |
NiTi shape memory alloys (SMA) have distinctive characteristics that render them well-suited for a diverse array of electrical actuator and sensor applications. In order to achieve exceptional performance and characteristics, it is necessary to expedite their response time. Examining the phase transformation characteristics of NiTi SMA is essential for that purpose. This research compares the phase transformation temperatures and thermal hysteresis (Ht) of NiTi SMA in the form of wires, both coated and uncoated. The actuation speed of the Au-Cu coated wire can be increased by minimizing the width of the Ht of the wires. The DSC measurements of a coated NiTi wire sample show a single-step phase change. This implies that the coating eliminates the unwanted intermetallic phases and reduces the (Ht) value by about 20 units. This research examines the impact of Au-Cu coatings on the phase transformation temperatures and Ht value of binary NiTi SMA. |
