Abstract Scope |
In this present investigation stir casting technique used to preparing composite samples, Dy was used as a reinforcement with very less proportions (0.1 % to 0.5%) to Al 2024.Dy is rare earth element in the lanthanide group with a metallic silver luster and these are essential for low carbon technologies. Optical microstructure, SEM, XRD, EDS analysis and wear also investigated. Grain refinement was achieved by increasing Dy content up to 0.4%, after 0.4% slightly reduced. Better mechanical properties are revealed due to grain refinement at 0.4%. Explored results are tensile strength 345Mpa hardness 114v elongation 18% and wear rate also decreased.it has been found that wear resistance of the composite significantly smaller and it is decreasing with Dy addition. The effect of Dy addition on grain refinement is more significant. |
