Abstract Scope |
In sheet metal forming simulations, knowledge of the evolution of a material’s yield surface and its anisotropic plastic flow from experiments is critical when choosing a constitutive model. Recently an in-plane torsion setup was developed that allows the observation of the entire gage section of a grooved disc-shaped specimen by a single optical camera for DIC measurements. In the present work, the in-plane torsion test is used to identify the properties of a wide range of engineering materials, from low strength aluminum extrusions to ultra-high strength steels. The hardening response up to an order of magnitude larger than in uniaxial tensile tests as well as the evolution of the anisotropy are assessed experimentally and the implications on current hardening laws and constitutive models are analyzed. |
