Abstract Scope |
Cadmium- tellurium (Cd-Te) binary system is interesting because of its alloys in the melt form and the semiconducting properties of solid CdTe compound which give it high technological importance. Cadmium telluride is used as an absorber layer in CdTe-based solar cells due its band gap energy (1.5 eV), in addition to its use in γ-ray and x-ray detectors. Understanding electrical, optical, structural, and thermodynamic properties of the material is essential for all these applications. In this work Thermo-Calc software was used to deduce the phase diagram, and to investigate some thermodynamic properties such as Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy of the phases of this system especially the CdTe compound. The results are discussed and compared with data in the literature. |
