Abstract Scope |
Nitinol, an alloy popular as stent material for its unique properties such as shape memory effect and superelasticity. Surface properties strongly affects stent performance, highly influenced by the manufacturing technique, Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF). LPBF possesses the challenge of high surface roughness of the parts. This study focuses on the surface modification using the electropolishing process. Several factors influence the process including the parameters such as voltage, flow rate and time along with the electrolyte used. To accomplish this goal, electropolishing was conducted on the parts using various conditions from 15-40V and 20-30s for two different electrolytes. The optimal surface state of NiTi parts were characterised for weight reduction, thickness and roughness. The optimised electropolishing parameters were found as 18V for 20s for the first electrolyte and 40V for 30s for the second electrolyte. These results promises electropolishing as a surface enhancing technique for NiTi stents produced via LPBF. |
