Abstract Scope |
Steel has been a primary material in construction and industrial applications. It has been affected by its inherent property of poor corrosion resistance when subjected to harsh conditions. This has been a major reason leading to reduction in the overall operational life of such steel-based components in service. Surface modifications are noted for being an effective solution to overcome these problems. To limit such damages, a study has been made to check the performance of Silicon Carbide and Titanium Diboride based coatings on A36 steel using Thermal Spray technique. The corrosion resistance of the developed coatings has been compared against an uncoated specimen. The application of coatings has shown an improvement in corrosion resistance, indicating that inert material-based surface modifications can be an effective way to improve the corrosion resistance in steel. |
