Abstract Scope |
This study analyzed the compressive strength and water absorption of soil-cement bricks produced with soils from the red ceramic industry of Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ). Two types of soils were collected to produce four compositions of bricks (SC10B-1, SC5B-1, SC10B-2, SC5-B2), which were evaluated for dimensional analysis, water absorption, and compressive strength at 7, 14, and 28 days of curing. The physical and chemical characterization of the soils was carried out to correlate with the technological properties of the bricks. The soils were mixed with 5% and 10% cement and water, pressed (Hydraulic Press 7000 Turbo II by Eco Máquinas), and cured for up to 28 days. The soil-cement blocks met Brazilian standards for dimensional analysis. The blocks with soil 2 (SC10B-2 and SC5-B2) showed better results in dimensional analysis and compressive strength compared to the blocks with soil 1 (SC10B-1 and SC5-B1). |
