Presentation Title Recent Developments of Large-Sized Magnesium Alloy Castings in the Automotive Industry
Author(s) Jonathan Weiler
On-Site Speaker (Planned) Jonathan Weiler
Abstract Scope Large sized die-castings have seen increased use in automotive applications through implementation of new advancements – die-cast machines with increased clamping forces, architecture of electric vehicles, and alloy developments. Recent applications of large sized Magnesium alloy castings have been reported to be in different stages of development, including concept development, feasibility evaluations, prototyping and product validation. This presentation reviews the background, benefits, and newly developed enabling technologies of large sized magnesium alloy automotive application castings, as well as recent examples. Finally, the challenges towards full-scale adaptation of these applications in the automotive industry are presented.
