Abstract Scope |
The study focuses on the influence of pH on the dispersion and stabilization of Al2O3 slurry utilizing dispersant and PVA binder. Zeta-potential characteristics reveal a significant influence of slurry pH on its stability behavior. These findings are supported by the sedimentation behaviour, wherein slurry having low zeta potential values sediments at a much faster as compared to others. Further, thermogravimetric and FTIR studies have been conducted to estimate the co-adsorption behavior of both the dispersant and binder. A higher amount of polymer is adsorbed on Al2O3 surface below the isoelectric point (IEP) of the medium. FTIR studies predict the preferential adsorption of dispersant over binder due to its ionic nature. Therefore, indicating the formation of chemical bonds with the former and hydrogen bonds with the latter. Further, these studies lend support to propose the interaction mechanism prevailing between the various species present in the system. |
