Abstract Scope The use of charcoal as a renewable carbon source contributes to the overall sustainability of the production process. This study primarily explores the production of manganese pellets using charcoal as a reducing agent by adjusting the proportion of charcoal and metallurgical coke, with the addition of an appropriate binder. This work aims to develop a sustainable and efficient process for agglomerating manganese ore fines and to investigate the effect of additional charcoal on the strength properties and CO-reducibility of manganese agglomerates.
