Abstract Scope |
With the advanced computational methods, there has been a phenomenal improvement in new material discoveries. However, materials availability risk and sustainability are often not considered during the design phase. The economic metric Herfindahl–Hirschman Index (HHI) provides a quantifiable measure of material availability risk considering the market monopoly. Unfortunately, the HHI information is not easily accessible. To address this challenge, we developed an interactive web tool to easily access and visualize the element-wise HHI values of production and reserve. The HHIs are calculated using global elemental market share data from the United States Geological Survey Mineral Yearbook. We believe this interactive tool will be helpful for the researchers selecting sustainable elements.
