Abstract Scope |
Tuning alpha microstructures through different phase transformation pathways or mechanisms in beta titanium alloys is crucial for optimizing their mechanical performance. In this presentation, we will introduce our recent study of alpha precipitation in a beta Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr (wt.%, Ti-5553) alloy. The first study examines the morphology of grain boundary alpha precipitates in Ti-5553 utilizing 3D characterization and simulation. The morphology of grain boundary alpha precipitates in Ti-5553 was revealed using 3D FIB-SEM tomography, and its relationship with the inclination angle between the habit plane of the selected variant for grain boundary alpha was studied via 3D phase field modeling. The second study focuses on the intragranular hierarchical alpha microstructure in Ti-5553. High-index {10 9 3}<3 3 1> deformation twin and its substructure were characterized using SEM and TEM. The role of these high-index deformation twins on the formation of hierarchical alpha microstructure will be introduced. |
