Abstract Scope |
Blankets are fundamental for the success of fusion but are among the least mature components. It is imperative to perform testing relevant to nuclear-blanket component test facility (n-BCTF) immediately using existing capabilities and rapidly advance blankets. We present a compendium of irradiation experiments that could utilize current capabilities to address power harnessing, tritium breeding, and shielding requirements for blankets. These include 1) thermal convection loop to elucidate power harnessing and irradiation enhanced corrosion, 2) solid breeder irradiation and tritium release behavior, 3) shielding requirements for irradiating high temperature superconductor magnets, 4) the design of a n-BCTF that utilizes a fission neutron source. Collectively, these tests address many issues that have previously been difficult to investigate in absence of a n-BCTF. |
