Abstract Scope |
Biofilms have caused many industrial problems as well as daily lives. We have investigated the application possibility of alternating electromagnetic fields to the control of biofilms. Comparing other countermeasures, for example, the utilization of biocides, this method might lead to the environmental non-destructive controlling way. Using various materials’ specimens and frequency conditions, we have got exciting results so far. Through these studies, we gradually understood that the combination of the type of bacteria, the kind of material, and the conditions of the electromagnetic field (especially the frequency range) changes the circumstances of the onset of the biofilm suppression effect. This study applied a relatively high frequency (20,30 kHz) to the biofilm for quantitative evaluation using the staining method. The surface of the samples was analyzed by Raman spectroscopy using a laser Raman spectrometer to confirm the presence of Biofilms on the surface. |
