Presentation Title ADVANCES FOR ANODE EFFECT FORECASTING AND MITIGATION

Abstract Scope In Aluminium smelter industry, the anode effect is a critical abnormality, marked by a rapid voltage increase above 8 V. Its result in increased energy consumption, PFC gases (CF4 and C2F6) emission, and increase in pot temperature that can reduce pot life. Modern process controls counter anode effect by alumina overfeeding and anode beam movement. In cases where the control system cannot terminate the anode effect, mitigated manually by inserting bamboo beneath the anode and hence sustain for longer duration. Early prediction can help to prevent both auto and manual anode effects, helps in reducing energy consumption, PFC emission and manual dependence. This paper reviews global advancements in anode effect prediction and suggests new approach for predicting anode effect. Further the proposed model can be integrated with pot control system to early detect anode effect and enables timely mitigation actions.
