Abstract Scope |
This study characterized three soils from the red ceramic industrial hub of Campos dos Goytacazes, evaluating their suitability for the production of extruded, pressed, and fired ceramic blocks. Grain size distribution, consistency limits, density, compaction, X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (EDX), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analyses were performed. The Winkler diagram was used to verify the suitability of the soils for hollow blocks. The chemical composition indicated high amounts of silica (SiO₂) and alumina (Al₂O₃) in Soils 1 and 2, suggesting the presence of kaolinite and gibbsite, while Soil 3 showed a predominance of silica, indicating quartz. The mineralogy of the soils revealed primarily quartz and kaolinite. The Winkler diagram indicated that Soil 2 is more suitable for the production of hollow ceramic blocks. |
